Governor-General and Prime Minister of The Bahamas Attend Chinese Embassy’s 2025 Spring Festival Reception

On 23 January 2025, the Chinese Embassy in The Bahamas hosted the reception to celebrate the Spring Festival. The event was attended by nearly 400 guests, including the Most Hon. Governor-General Cynthia Pratt, the Hon. Prime Minister Philip Davis, the Hon. Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper, the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs Frederick Mitchell, other cabinet ministers, the Hon. President of the Senate Lashell Adderley, representatives from various sectors, Chinese enterprises, and members of the Chinese community.

Ambassador Yan Jiarong highlighted the rich cultural heritage of the Spring Festival, promoting the Global Civilization Initiative and the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind. She reviewed China’s economic and social achievements in 2024 as well as the highlights of China-Bahamas relations, expressing hopes for strengthening mutual understanding between civilizations and further enhancing bilateral ties.

The Hon. Prime Minister Philip Davis extended Lunar New Year greetings to the Chinese people, recognizing the profound cultural heritage and global significance of the Spring Festival. He appreciated China’s support for The Bahamas’ comprehensive development, and reaffirmed The Bahamas’ adherence to the one-China principle.

Performances including lion dances, classical poetry recitals, martial arts displays, and a Junkanoo parade blended Bahamian and Chinese cultural elements drew rounds of applause. Cultural experiences such as Hanfu attire, tea-making performance, and traditional Chinese massage were warmly received. The event was extensively covered by mainstream and online media in The Bahamas.
