Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait Zhang Jianwei Attends the Embassy’s “Happy Chinese New Year 2025” Event

On February 12, 2025, the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait and the China Cultural Center in Kuwait co-hosted a festive event to celebrate the Chinese Lantern Festival of the Year of the Snake. The event was attended by Ambassador Zhang Jianwei, Director of the China Cultural Center Liu Jinhong, and a gathering of over 400 honored guests including Deputy Foreign Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Kuwait’s Amiri Diwan Advisor Mr. Mohammad Abdullah Abu Al Hasan, former Kuwaiti ambassadors to China, former Kuwaiti consuls general in China, and friends from various sectors.

Ambassador Zhang Jianwei conveyed Chinese New Year greetings to the guests, saying that Spring Festival of the Year of the Snake is the first since its inscription on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Spring Festival signals a new start and brings new hopes. He expected the two peoples to cement friendly ties and work together to carry forward China-Kuwait traditional friendship and write a new chapter of bilateral relations.

In the Chinese Embassy decorated with festive lanterns, guests tasted Chinese delicacies and watched the dragon and lion dance show and the Chinese martial arts show. The festive event, celebrated with great joy and happiness, climaxed the experiencing of diverse Chinese cultural custom by the guests such as writing Spring Festival couplets, learning paper-cutting and Chinese calligraphy and playing Tou Hu or “pitch-pot” game.
