On April 17, the Chinese Embassy in Fiji held a reception to celebrate 170 years of Chinese arrival in Fiji. Ambassador Zhou Jian, along with a visiting delegation from the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of China, Fijian ministers, members of parliament, representatives of the overseas Chinese community, and personnel from Chinese enterprises in Fiji, totaling over 200 attendees participated in the event.
In welcoming remarks, Ambassador Zhou Jian encouraged everyone to draw wisdom and strength from the 170 years history of Chinese in Fiji and the 50 years of diplomatic relations between China and Fiji. He called for carrying forward the spirit of hard work, unity, and dedication demonstrated by the early Chinese settlers, and to continue contributing to the development of the overseas Chinese community and the friendship between China and Fiji.
The delegation, in their speech, highly commended the achievements made by the overseas Chinese community over the past 170 years. They introduced China’s policies on overseas Chinese affairs and encouraged the community to continue serving as a bridge, deepening economic cooperation and cultural exchanges between China and Fiji.
During the event, attendees enjoyed a cultural performance, turning the venue into a joyous celebration.
