On April 24, 2025, Consul General of China in Johannesburg, Mr. Pan Qingjiang, met with the Speaker of the Johannesburg Council, Cllr. Nobuhle Mthembu. The two sides exchanged views on promoting China-South Africa friendship and sub-national engagements and cooperation. Mr. Pan expressed China’s commitment to advancing friendly and cooperative relations with Johannesburg in various fields including legislation. Mr. Pan stated China’s principled position on opposing U.S. abuse of tariffs and on the Taiwan question. The Speaker spoke highly of the bilateral relations and supported China's position on relevant issues. She further extended her willingness to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in legislation between Johannesburg and Chinese counterparts and contribute to the development of South-Africa China relations.
