On May 15, Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Kong Xianhua paid a courtesy call on Hon. Abdul Raheem Abdulla, Speaker of the People’s Majlis of the Maldives. Minister Counsellor He Fen from the Chinese Embassy was also present.
Ambassador Kong first conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes from H.E. Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China. He stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu paid a successful visit to China early last year, during which the two heads of state agreed to elevate China-Maldives relations to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and jointly committed to building a China-Maldives community with a shared future. The recently held Central Conference on Work Relating to Neighboring Countries emphasized the building of a community with a shared future with neighboring countries, guided by the common vision of creating a peaceful, secure, prosperous, beautiful, and friendly home for all. China is willing to work with the Maldives to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the legislative bodies, promote people-to-people connectivity, and contribute to the building of a China-Maldives community with a shared future.
Hon. Abdul Raheem Abdulla asked Ambassador Kong to convey his sincere thanks and warm greetings to H.E. Zhao Leji. He highly appreciated China’s contributions to the economic and social development of the Maldives and stated that the Maldivian Parliament will remain committed to promoting the Maldives-China friendship to better benefit the people of both countries.
