On June 26, 2025, Ambassador Xiao Qian introduced the Communist Party of China (CPC) to the Australian public while attending an exchange event hosted by the embassy. The key points were as follows:
In recent years, China has increasingly become a focal point on the global stage, with Chinese modernization injecting fresh momentum into global economic and social development. I believe that to truly understand China, one must first understand the CPC. So, what is the real CPC? I would like to share my perspective with our guests from afar from three dimensions.
First, the CPC is committed to realizing people’s happiness. Since its founding, the CPC has always adhered to a people-centered philosophy. In modern history, the CPC united and led the Chinese people in the struggle for national independence and people’s liberation. As a result, the Chinese people, once oppressed and exploited, became masters of their country, society, and their own destiny. Since the launch of reform and opening up, the CPC has established and continuously improved the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics, enabling the Chinese people to live and work in peace and contentment, with a significant improvement in their living standards.. Since 2012, General Secretary Xi Jinping has regarded as our goal the people’s aspirations to live a better life. Under his leadership, the CPC launched a massive battle against poverty in the new era, and by 2020, achieved the historic goal of eliminating absolute poverty as scheduled. Nearly 100 million people were lifted out of poverty, marking an unprecedented achievement in the history of poverty reduction and allowing the benefits of modernization to reach all people more broadly and fairly. The CPC comes from the people, is rooted in the people, and serves the people. It shares a profound and unbreakable bond with the people, and enjoys their full trust and broad-based support. According to over a decade of consecutive public opinion polls conducted by Harvard Kennedy School of Government, the Chinese people’s satisfaction with their government has consistently remained above 90%. This is a vivid testament to the deep and closing ties between the CPC and the Chinese people.
Second, the CPC is committed to the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The CPC has always taken the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation as its unwavering aspiration. Through decades of exploration and practice, the CPC has blazed a correct path to national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization, rewritten the history of humiliation endured by the Chinese nation in modern times. Chinese modernization is the modernization of a huge population, of common prosperity for all, of material and cultural-ethical advancement, of harmony between humanity and nature, and of peaceful development. Following this path, China has risen from an impoverished country to become the world’s second-largest economy, completing a process of industrialization that took developed countries several centuries in the space of mere decades. China has the world’s most complete industrial system, the most convenient soft and hard infrastructure, the most promising consumer market, the most hard-working high-caliber workforce, and the most competitive innovation ecosystems. Today, amidst profound global changes unseen in a century, China’s economy demonstrates strong resilience and vitality. With its strength in innovation and manufacturing, China is not only advancing its own development but also injecting fresh momentum into the global economy and offering new opportunities for the world’s shared progress.
Third, the CPC is committed to the harmony of the world. Under the leadership of the CPC, China unswervingly pursues an independent foreign policy of peace and remains firmly committed to the path of peaceful development. China holds high the banner of peace, development, cooperation, and mutual benefit, and actively works to build a community with a shared future for mankind. At present, our world is living through accelerating changes unseen in a century, with the international landscape undergoing profound and complex changes. Humanity stands at a critical crossroads. A small number of countries, driven by self-interest and power politics, have embraced protectionism, wielded tariffs as weapons, and resorted to bullying tactics that seriously undermine the international order of free trade and global fairness and justice. In this turbulent and changing world, China firmly stands on the right side of history and on the side of human progress. It remains committed to being a force for peace and stability, a champion of fairness and justice, and a contributor to global development. China is dedicated to promoting a multi-polar world that is equal and orderly, and an economic globalization that is inclusive and beneficial for all—providing certainty in an uncertain world. As UN Secretary-General António Guterres has rightly observed, in a world full of uncertainties, China offers certainty, confidence, and hope.
