Chinese Consul General in Christchurch He Ying Meets with Nelson Mayor Nick Smith

On June 25, Consul General He Ying led a delegation to Nelson and met with Mayor Nick Smith and Councillor Trudie Brand. Also present were Mr. Hu Beihai, President of the China Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand and CEO of Bank of China (New Zealand) Limited, as well as Mr. Liu Zhimin, Chief Correspondent of China Media Group in Wellington.

Consul General He highlighted the outcomes of Prime Minister Luxon’s recent visit to China, particularly the positive impact of new bilateral agreements, including arrangements for the export of New Zealand wild-caught aquatic products to China and cooperation on organic product certification. She expressed hope that Nelson would continue to strengthen its sister-city ties with Chinese counterparts and further advance cooperation with China across various sectors. She reaffirmed the Consulate’s readiness to provide support and assistance.

Mayor Smith welcomed the Consul General’s timely visit following Prime Minister Luxon’s successful trip to China. He recalled his own visit to Huangshi and Yangjiang last year with great appreciation, and emphasized Nelson’s strong commitment to its sister-city relationships with China. He expressed Nelson’s interest in further deepening cooperation with China in areas such as trade, education, tourism, and science and technology.
