On July 16, Ambassador GAO Wenqi attended and addressed the celebration of the solar power system project implemented by Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) in Gisagara District, Southern Province of Rwanda. The event was joined by over 200 participants, including Vice Mayor Mr. Habineza of Gisagara District, PolyU faculty and students, and the local community.
Ambassador GAO spoke highly of Rwanda’s rich cultural heritage and the warmth of its people. He commended PolyU students and faculty for their 12-year commitment to service-learning, which has honed their skills, broadened their horizons, and demonstrated a strong sense of responsibility—making them good-will ambassadors of China-Rwanda friendship and youth pioneers. He underlined that the solar power project, benefiting communities while aligning with Rwanda’s National Strategy for Transformation II, exemplifies sustainable and eco-friendly development. Ambassador GAO believed that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, more “small yet smart” programs will further advance the high-quality development of the China-Rwanda Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Vice Mayor Mr. Habineza extended gratitude to the Chinese government for its longstanding contributions to Rwanda’s socio-economic progress and thanked PolyU for choosing Gisagara. The installation of solar power systems for 500 households has significantly improved electrification in remote areas, "brightening not only lives but also futures," he stressed.
