On July 16, 2025, Ambassador He Rulong visited the municipality of Grímsnes-og Grafningshreppur in southern Iceland. During the visit, he met with Municipal Council Chairperson Ása Valdís Árnadóttir and Mayor Fjóla Steindóra Kristinsdóttir, and visited the Ljósafoss hydropower station operated by Landsvirkjun and the Sólheimar Eco-Village. Mayor Kristindóttir accompanied the ambassador throughout the visit.
Ambassador He commended the municipality for its rich experience in clean energy utilization and sustainable development. He said that cooperation between localities is an important part of China-Iceland relations. The Embassy stands ready to strengthen ties with Grímsnes-og Grafningshreppur to deepen cooperation in areas such as tourism and green energy, and to enhance friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
Mayor Kristindóttir maintained that her municipality, a gateway to Iceland’s Golden Circle, enjoys a conspicuous advantage in its geographic location. In recent years, the number of Chinese tourists visiting Iceland has continued to grow. She values exchanges and cooperation with China and looks forward to welcoming more Chinese visitors to her municipality with a view to deepening mutual understanding and strengthening mutual trust.
