On Aug. 5th, Consul General Zhang Zhen held a media briefing. She introduced China’s economic development in the first half of this year and briefed on the implementation of China's 14th Five-Year Plan with a short video. She also elaborated on the principles of China’s neighborhood diplomacy and some relevant diplomacy in the first half of this year.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the Philippines. Consul General Zhang Zhen pointed out that the 50th anniversary is a crucially important occasion to reflect on the original aspiration that brought us together, to draw wisdom and strength from our shared history, and listen to the voices of the peoples. She emphasized, “ For us as neighbors, a steady and sound bilateral relationship is in the fundamental interest of our peoples and embodies the shared aspirations of the vast majority in both countries.”
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. In this connection, She shared some historical documentary and pointed out, “we honor the shared history not to dwell on past grievances, but to uphold universal lessons: justice ultimately prevails, peace requires eternal vigilance.” “History, when remembered, serves as a powerful guide for the future. Only by learning from the past can humanity prevent the return of the darkest hours,” she added.
Taiwan’s return to China was a key outcome of the victory in World War II. And it is an important part of the international order established after the World War II. The international legal documents, including the Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Proclamation, the Japanese Instrument of Surrender and the Resolution 2758 of the United Nations General Assembly, affirmed China’s sovereignty over Taiwan and laid the legal groundwork for the post-war international order. On this regard, Consul General Zhang Zhen made it clear that "Taiwan independence" is a political fallacy aiming to contain China, propagated by some separatists and external forces. She called on media to resolutely uphold the one-China principle and oppose any attempt to distort historical truth.
