On August 13, Ambassador Xiao Qian was invited to attend an exchange in Melbourne with BHP's Board and Senior management team. 21 BHP Board members and senior executives including Ross McEwan, BHP Chairman and Mike Henry, BHP CEO attended the event.
In his keynote speech, Ambassador Xiao briefed the China-Australia relations and bilateral economic and trade cooperation. He pointed out that during Prime Minister Albanese's successful visit to China last month, our two leaders reached important consensus on further stabilizing and developing bilateral relations. At present, China's economy has maintained a steady and positive momentum with a bright outlook, presenting important opportunities for the two countries to deepen cooperation. Ambassador Xiao commended BHP for its long-standing efforts and achievements in advancing China-Australia economic and trade cooperation, hoping BHP can further its cooperation with China in such areas as mineral trade, green and low-carbon, upstream and downstream of the industrial chain, digitalization and RMB settlement.
Ambassador Xiao also exchanged views with BHP's Board members on issues of mutual interest.
