Hon. President of the Maldvies, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu,
Hon. First Lady Sajidha Mohamed,
Hon. Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef,
Hon. Ministers, MPs and party leaders,
Dear colleagues from the Diplomatic Corps,
Distinguished guests, Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear friends,
Good afternoon!
Welcome you all to join us in celebrating the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China,and for the upcoming traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival.
First of all, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to friends from all sectors who have long supported and contributed to the development of China–Maldives friendship.
76 years ago, the People's Republic of China was born under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. Through hard work and perseverance, today, China has become a major driver for global development, offering a new path to modernization for humanity.
Ladies and gentlemen, dear friends,
The year 2025 marks the conclusion of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan. In these five years, China’s development is marked by three distinctive features:
First, Stronger——By the end of this year, Chinese GDP is expected to reach ¥140 trillion, equivalent to about$20 trillion. The increase within these 5 years is projected to exceed ¥35 trillion, which is larger than the world's third-largest economy.
Duringthis UN General Assembly, Chinese Premier Li Qiang made a solemn declaration that China will not seek new special and differential treatment in the current and future negotiations ofWTO.
China is still a developing country. As we develop, our commitment to the multilateral trading system and the reform of the global economic governance system grows accordingly.
Second, Better——Driven by technological innovation, China’s industries are transforming from low-and mid-end segments to high-end sectors, and from being followers to becoming global leaders.
The fruits of economic growth and scientific progress are being tangibly translated into a stronger sense of fulfillment and well-being for the Chinese people, whose life expectancy has reached 79 years.
Third, Greener——Over the past four years, China’s energy consumption per unit of GDP has dropped by 11.6%, equivalent to cutting 1.1 billion tons ofcarbon dioxide.
In his video speech delivered to the UN Climate Summit a few days ago, President Xi Jinping pledged that by 2035 China will reduceeconomy-wide net greenhouse gas emission by 7 to 10 percent from peak level.
Ladies and gentlemen, dear friends,
The documented history of friendly exchanges between China and the Maldives spans over 600 years, which explains why our friendship has reached such a high level in just 53 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Last year, His Excellency President DrMuizzu visited China and, together with President Xi, announced the elevation of bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, and to build a China-Maldives community with a shared future.
China-Maldives relations nowunveil a brand new chapter.
I note with great pleasure that under the strong leadership of His Excellency President Dr Muizzu, the Maldives is committed to promoting diversified and sustainable economic development, improving people’s lives, and playing a leading role on multilateral platforms in addressing issues such as climate change that concern small island countries. China highly appreciates these efforts. We will, as always, support the independence and autonomy of the Maldives, help the Maldives to pursue a development path that suits your national priorities, and play a more active role in global governance.
Here, I’m glad to announce that debt relief arrangements between concerned parties of our two sides have been fully finalized. These arrangements manifest not only Chinese government’s strong support to the fiscal and financial stability of the Maldives but also our confidence in the reforms undertaken by the Maldivian government and the great potential of Maldivian economy.
All three major projects fully financed by China grant aid: the China-Maldives Friendship Hospital, Road Redevelopment in Male and Vilimale, and 50 Island Council Buildings, have made significant progress and will enter the construction phase one by one in the near future.
With the facilitation of China-MaldivesFree Trade Agreement, FDI from China is gathering momentum. Under the witness ofH.E.President DrMuizzu, 11 MoUs, covering renewable energy, fishery, agriculture, and vocational education, were signed in Beijing early this month.
With the launching of Chinese Yuan accounts by Bank of Maldives, local currency settlement also achieved an important progress.
I believe, with determination and close cooperation, the extensive consensus reached by our two Heads of State will be fully realized and translated into tangible well-being of the people.
Ladies and gentlemen, dear friends,
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggressionand the World Anti-Fascist War. His Excellency President Dr Muizzu, together with other world leaders from 25 countries, jointly reviewed the military paradeon Tiananmen with President Xi Jinping. This is to remember history, honor fallen heroes, cherish peace, and create a better future.
Might may rule the moment, but right prevails forever.Today, the world is undergoing profound changes unseen. In his speech in this SCO summit, President Xi Jinping put forward the Global Governance Initiative, underscored thatsovereign equality,international rule of law,multilateralism, people-centered approach,andtaking real actions are the most needed to answer the question of the era.China is willing to work together with the Maldives and all the international community, topromote an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive globalization.
Ladies and gentlemen, dear friends,
I have been here for five months, and I observed that among our many similarities, both our peoples attach great importance to the family. The coming Mid-Autumn Festival is a time for family reunion. As a Chinese saying goes, Harmonious family enjoys prosperity. Similarly, a Maldivian proverb teaches, "If the family is harmonious, wealth will follow." Family is the smallest nation, and nation is made up of many families.
To conclude, let us jointly extend our best wishes:
——To the peoples of China and the Maldives — joyful family reunions and continued well-being;
——To the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Maldives — prosperity and lasting progress;
——And to the China–Maldives friendship — may it endure for generations to come!
Thank you all! Shukleeyaa(舒克利亚)!谢谢大家!
