Chinese Consulate General in Johannesburg Hosts Reception Marking the 76th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China

On September 29, 2025, the Chinese Consulate General in Johannesburg held a reception to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Consul General Mr. Pan Qingjiang, MEC Mr. Matome Chiloane from Gauteng and MEC Ms. Ntombizanele Sifuba from Free State delivered speeches.Nearly 300 guests attended the event, including representatives from government, political parties, business, academia, and the media, as well as Chinese enterprises and local Chinese community.

In his speech, Mr. Pan reviewed the achievements of the People's Republic of China over the past 76 years, highlighted the Global Governance Initiative China has proposed, emphasized the historical significance of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression to the World War II, and outlined the positive development of China-South Africa relations and the achievements of sub-national exchanges and cooperation. He reaffirmed the readiness to work with all sectors in Gauteng and Free Stateto advance pragmatic cooperation and people-to-people friendship so as to build a high-level China-South Africa community with a shared future.Mr. Pan further expressed his hope that China’s zero-tariff initiative for South Africa would be implemented at an early date and that the G20 Johannesburg Summit would be a complete success.

In their remarks, Mr. Chiloane and Ms. Sifuba spoke highly of China's achievement in its modernization and China’s contribution in the reform and improvement of global governance, and expressed their willingness to deepen the sub-national exchanges and cooperation and contribute more to the development of South Africa-China relations.

The reception was filled with warm and friendly atmosphere. Young people from both China and South Africa presented colorful cultural performances.
