On 5 October, Acting Consul General Wang Junchao attended the Waikato Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival Gala with Mayor of Hamilton Paula Southgate, Councillor Anna Casey-Cox, and over 150 people from Chinese community and various sectors.
In his remarks Wang extended festive greetings to local Chinese Compatriots and expressed gratitude to the local government for its support to the development of the Chinese community. He fully acknowledged Waikato Chinese community's active efforts in promoting excellent traditional Chinese culture, which have contributed positively to the people-to-people ties between China and New Zealand. He called on everyone to continue upholding the fine traditions of loving their motherland and hometown, fostering unity and mutual assistance, and facilitating the friendly cooperation between China and New Zealand. On her part, Southgate expressed appreciation to the local Chinese community for promoting multicultural society, and introduced the fruitful outcomes of Hamilton’s sister city cooperation with Chengdu, and Wuxi of China.
The event was hosted by Waikato Chinese Culture and Arts Centre and co-organized by the Huaxing Art Troupe of New Zealand.
