On October 9, 2025, H.E. Ambassador Zhang Zuo, upon assuming his post in Malta, paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament Hon. Dr. Anglu Farrugia.

H.E. Ambassador Zhang conveyed the cordial greetings of Chairman Zhao Leji of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), and stated that under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, China-Malta relations have maintained a good momentum of development, and the legislative bodies of the two sides have maintained close exchanges. China is ready to strengthen exchanges between the legislative bodies of both sides, deepen political, economic, cultural, and people-to-people cooperation, promote the implementation of the four Global initiatives, so as to contribute to the friendly relations between China and Malta and the healthy stable development of China-EU relations, and jointly safeguard world peace, development, and prosperity.

Hon. Dr. Anglu Farrugia conveyed his regards to Chairman Zhao Leji and welcomed H.E. Ambassador Zhang to his new post. He recalled the history of the friendship between Malta and China forged by the older generation of leaders of both countries and reaffirms the great importance Malta attaches to developing friendly relations with China.
