On January 12, 2026, Ren Faqiang, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Cape Town, paid a visit to  Yin-Zhe Ma, MASSAf, Full Professor and Founding Head of Astrophysics Division of Stellenbosch University. They exchanged views on strengthening scientific research cooperation in astronomy between China and South Africa.

Consul General Ren appreciated Professor Yin-Zhe Ma for his and his team’s significant contributions to advancing scientific research collaboration and cultural exchanges between China and South Africa in astronomy and astrophysics. He encouraged Professor Ma and his team continuously engage in the relative sectors of bilateral astronomy and astrophysics research activities. Chinese Consulate General in Cape Town will continue to  provide necessary assistance and support to further promote practical cooperation in astronomical research and other fields between the two countries.

Professor Yin-Zhe Ma welcomed Consul General Ren to his new post and his visit to his team in Stellenbosch University . He expressed that he, together with his team will continue to promote pragmatic cooperation with Chinese counterparts and partners and to enhance scientific research and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
