Chinese Ambassador to The Bahamas Yan Jiarong Visits Patients of the Brightness Action Initiative Cataract Surgery

On 19 January 2026, Her Excellency Yan Jiarong, Chinese Ambassador to The Bahamas, together with the Hon. Michael Darville, Minister of Health and Wellness of The Bahamas, paid a special visit to patients who had received free cataract surgeries under the Chinese Brightness Action Initiative at Princess Margaret Hospital.

Ambassador Yan inquired about the patients’ recovery and congratulated them on regaining sight. She emphasized that the Brightness Action Initiative, carried out by China, is a major international medical well-being project that brings benefits and hope to patients in Global South countries, including The Bahamas. She said that benefitting the people is a hallmark of China–Bahamas relations. The Brightness Action Initiative has produced many heartwarming stories of friendship and brought new momentum into China-Bahamas friendly cooperation. Chinese medical experts shared touching stories of their interactions with patients and local communities during their mission.

Minister Darville expressed his appreciation to the Chinese medical team for overcoming numerous difficulties with perseverance and selfless dedication, and voiced his expectation for further deepening health and medical cooperation between the two countries.

Several patients shared their joy and gratitude, praising the medical skills of the Chinese doctors and commending China–Bahamas cooperation for benefiting the people. They expressed their best wishes for a lasting friendship between the two countries.
