Chinese Embassy in Tonga Hosts Dialogue with Town Officers from Tongatapu

On May 26, Chinese Embassy hosted Dialogue with Town Officers from Tongatapu. Ambassador Liu Weimin attended the event and delivered remarks. Counselor Ruan Dewen, Mr. Tevita Manu'a, representative of Prime Minister’s Office, and more than 30 town officers were present.

In his remarks, Ambassador Liu stated that the Chinese Embassy is committed to further deepening the China–Tonga comprehensive strategic partnership and promoting high-quality, practical cooperation between the two countries. He noted that grassroot governance is the cornerstone of national governance. Gaining a true understanding of conditions at the grassroot level and listening to the real needs of communities are essential for ensuring that bilateral cooperation better benefits the people of both countries. He also emphasized that town officers, who are deeply rooted in local communities and serve the people on a daily basis, play an important bridging role between the government and the public. Their experience and suggestions are of great significance for advancing cooperation between the two countries to better benefit Tongan communities and the people.

Mr. Tevita expressed appreciation for China’s long-standing support for cooperation with Tonga across various fields and expectation to further deepening exchanges and cooperation to better enhance the well-being of the people.

Town officers actively shared their views based on local realities. The discussion was warm, constructive, and friendly.
