On 23 May 2026, the Chinese Consulate-General in Brisbane held a “Conversation with Dr Consul-General” for a special sharing session with Runcorn Rockets Basketball Club. Consul-General Dr Ruan Zongze had friendly exchanges with Mr James Martin MP, the club president Mr Mark Smith, the players, coaches and parent representatives of the Runcorn Rockets Basketball Club. Deputy Consul-General Ms Li Suyun hosted the event.

Dr Ruan congratulated the club on its successful visit to China. He stated that enhancing sports exchanges would help consolidate the friendship between the Chinese and Australian people. The Consulate-General is committed to continue promoting more sports exchange activities for youths between China and Queensland.

Mr James Martin MP said that sports are one of the important ways for exchange between China and Australia, and he welcomed Chinese youth athletes to come to Australia for exchanges. Mr Mark Smith said that this visit to China once again allowed him to personally experience the warmth of the Chinese people and the vigorous development of Chinese modernization. He is willing to continue promoting the youth exchanges between China and Queensland.
