On June 15, 2026, at the invitation of the government of Kosrae State, H.E. Wu Wei, Chinese Ambassador to the FSM paid a visit to Kosrae State, and attended the handover ceremony of the Utwe Kosrae-China Friendship Gymnasium. The ceremony was also attended by T.H. Tulensa W. Palik, Governor of the Kosrae State, T.H. Semeon J. Phillip, Speaker of the Kosrae State Legislature, T.H. Yoslyn G. Sigrah, Senator of the FSM National Congress, T.H. Arthy G. Nena, Lt. Governor of the Kosrae State, T.H. Salpasr Tilfas, Vice Speaker of the Kosrae State Legislature, T.H. Andy J. Andrew, Floor Leader of the Kosrae State Legislature, T.H. Carson Nena, Mayor of Utwe Municipality.

Ambassador Wu remarked that the completion of Utwe Kosrae-China Friendship Gymnasium is a concrete step to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and to advance practical cooperation between China and the FSM. It serves as another vivid manifestation of China-FSM friendship. Wu thanked the valuable support from the leadership of FSM National Government, Kosrae State Government and Legislature to the Utwe Kosrae-China Friendship Gymnasium, and emphasized that Kosrae is the first state of the FSM to forge sister state relationship at subnational level with China, and the friendship between the two sides has grown ever stronger with the passage of time. On the basis of the one-China principle, China stands ready to continue supporting the economic and social development of the FSM, including Kosrae State, and to deepen and strengthen the bilateral relations.

Governor Palik expressed gratitude for China’s long-term support and assistance, reaffirming that Kosrae State will continue to firmly uphold the one-China policy, deepen practical cooperation with China across all fields, and further consolidate and advance the friendly relations between the FSM and China.

On June 16, Ambassador Wu met with leadership of Kosrae State Government, the State Legislature, and mayors of Kosrae State, for in-depth exchanges on strengthening subnational exchanges between China and the FSM.
