On 27 April 2012, invited by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Premier Wen Jiabao delivered a televised speech at the Government Information Center of Poland. The full text of the speech is as follows:
Dear Friends,
I am delighted to have this opportunity to send warm greetings and pay high tribute to the great Polish people during my visit to Poland through the Government Information Center. In a few days' time, Poland will celebrate the International Workers' Day, the Republic of Poland Flag Day and Poland's National Holiday. I wish to take this opportunity to extend best wishes to the Polish people on these festive occasions.
My visit is the first in 25 years by a Chinese premier to Poland. Many years have passed, but our friendship remains the same. The warm reception my delegation and I have received from the Polish government and people makes us feel very much at home here. Poland, as we have seen, is full of vitality and dynamism. We are truly happy for Poland and we deeply admire your achievements.
I had fruitful talks with Prime Minister Tusk and friendly meetings with President Bronisław Komorowski, Speaker of the Sejm Ewa Kopacz and Speaker of the Senate Bogdan Borusewicz. We reached important agreement on a number of issues. The two sides agreed to continue to respect each other, treat each other as equals and support each other in pursuing an independently chosen development path. We agreed to establish a mechanism for regular meetings between the two prime ministers, intensify high-level exchanges and enhance political mutual trust. We decided to set up an Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee and an Industrial Cooperation Steering Committee to promote mutual investment and balanced growth of trade, double bilateral trade within five years and enhance cooperation in infrastructure, new energy and hi-tech fields. The Chinese side has invited 50 young Poles to visit China next year. We will open, as early as possible, a culture center in each other's country and have closer people-to-people exchanges and cooperation in tourism with the launch of direct flights between Beijing and Warsaw.
During my visit, the first meeting between the leaders of China and Central and East European countries and the second China-Central and Eastern Europe Economic Forum were successfully held. I also had bilateral meetings with leaders of these countries. I felt deeply that like China, Central and East European countries value traditional friendship and have a sincere desire for closer cooperation. We now have important opportunities and a promising outlook for the growth of our relations. China will earnestly act on its commitments to send trade and investment missions to Central and Eastern Europe, establish a US$10 billion special credit line and set up a US$500 million investment cooperation fund. We need to work together to implement all initiatives, strengthen coordination and cooperation and deliver tangible results through cooperation to the benefit of people in China and Central and Eastern Europe.
China supports the EU integration process and believes that Europe will strengthen its growth dynamism through reform and achieve economic recovery and growth. A stable, prosperous and strong Europe will help deepen the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership and promote world peace and development.
China, Poland and other Central and East European countries are in a crucial period of development. We all have a formidable task of development and national revitalization. As long as we trust and help each other and work closely together, no force can stand in the way of our progress. China will always be a good friend and true partner of Central and East European countries. Let us join hands and create an even better future.
I wish Poland prosperity and its people happiness.
Thank you.
