On June 9, 2025 local time, Vice President Han Zheng met with French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC) in Nice, France.
Han Zheng conveyed President Xi Jinping's greetings to President Emmanuel Macron, and said that President Xi Jinping had a phone call with President Emmanuel Macron last month, during which they had an in-depth exchange on issues of common interest and concern such as enhancing solidarity and cooperation between China and France, upholding multilateralism, and promoting world peace and stability, and reached important common understandings. Han Zheng said that his attendance at the UNOC in France is aimed at implementing the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state, reflects support for the United Nations and France in holding the conference, and promotes the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. China supports France in upholding strategic autonomy, and is ready to enhance bilateral and multilateral strategic communication and coordination with France, and inject new impetus into the development of China-France relations. Noting that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union (EU), Han Zheng stated that under the current complex international situation, strengthening cooperation between China and the EU benefits both sides and the rest of the world. China is ready to further expand cooperation areas with the EU and push for fresh development of China-EU relations.
Emmanuel Macron expressed appreciation for Han Zheng's attendance at the UNOC, and asked Han Zheng to convey his best wishes to President Xi Jinping. Emmanuel Macron said that France regards China as a long-term and reliable cooperation partner. Amid the current international situation full of challenges and difficulties, it is of vital importance for France and China, as two major countries, to maintain close high-level exchanges and strengthen communication and cooperation in safeguarding world peace and security. France welcomes Chinese companies to invest and do business in the country and is willing to work with China to deepen bilateral economic and trade cooperation, enhance communication and coordination in international economic and financial policies, jointly address global challenges such as climate change and biodiversity protection, uphold multilateralism, and play as two major constructive forces in this turbulent world, so as to add more certainty to the world.
