Xi Jinping said that he was shocked to learn that a strong hurricane disaster had hit Jamaica, causing casualties and heavy property losses. On behalf of the Chinese government and people, he extended deep condolences to the victims and sincere sympathies to the bereaved families, the injured, and people in the affected areas. Noting that Jamaica is China's strategic partner and the two peoples enjoy a profound friendship, Xi Jinping said that China is ready to provide assistance to Jamaica and support the Jamaican people in overcoming the disaster and rebuilding their homes at an early date.
On the same day, Premier Li Qiang of the State Council sent a message of condolence to Prime Minister of Jamaica Andrew Michael Holness.
