Xi Jinping Exchanges Congratulatory Messages with Fijian President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu on the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of China-Fiji Diplomatic Relations

On November 5, 2025, President Xi Jinping exchanged congratulatory messages with Fijian President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Fiji.

Xi Jinping noted that Fiji was the first Pacific Island country to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. Over the past half-century, regardless of changes in the international landscape, China and Fiji have always respected each other, treated each other as equals, pursued win-win cooperation, and supported each other in following development paths suited to their national conditions. In recent years, the two countries have achieved fruitful results in high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, benefiting the two peoples and making China-Fiji friendship more deeply rooted in the hearts of the two peoples.

Xi Jinping emphasized that he attaches great importance to the development of China-Fiji relations. He expressed readiness to work with President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu to take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity to enhance political mutual trust, expand cooperation in various fields, and take the China-Fiji comprehensive strategic partnership to new heights.

Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu stated that the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Fiji and China is an important milestone in the relationship between the two countries. Based on mutual respect, common interests, and a shared vision for peace and prosperity, the two countries have established a comprehensive strategic partnership. Cooperation has continued to expand, making significant contributions to addressing regional and international challenges. He expressed confidence that the development of Fiji-China relations will further deepen, become more vibrant, and have broader prospects.

On the same day, Premier Li Qiang of the State Council exchanged congratulatory messages with Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. Li Qiang said that China attaches great importance to the development of China-Fiji relations and stands ready to work with Fiji to take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to expand and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and push forward the continuous development of the China-Fiji comprehensive strategic partnership.

Sitiveni Rabuka said that Fiji values its comprehensive strategic partnership with China, and bilateral cooperation in various fields has continuously brought tangible benefits to the people of both countries. Fiji looks forward to working closely with China to deepen the partnership featuring mutual respect, long-lasting friendship, and common development.
