The Chinese Working Group Meets with Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand Chalerm Yubamrung

On the morning of Oct. 29, 2011, the Chinese Working Group met with Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand Chalerm Yubamrung in charge of security affairs on invitation in Chiang Rai, Thailand.

Guo Shaochun, the head of the Chinese Working Group, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs and Director of the Consular Protection Center, affirmed the progress in handling the killing of Chinese sailors on the Mekong River and the assistance provided by Thailand. He hoped that Thailand could make the best efforts to advance the investigation, speed up related judicial procedures, punish the murderers by law and work with China to properly handle the aftermath of the incident.

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung said that the Thai government values the friendly relationship with China and pays high attention to the investigation of the case. He was entrusted by the leaders of Thailand to come to Chiang Rai for the purpose of further advancing the investigation, finding out the truth and handling the case by law. Thailand will provide full support to China to handle the aftermath of the incident.

Consular counselor of the Chinese embassy in Thailand and head of the Office of the National Thai Police also attended the meeting.
