The Government of the People's Republic of China and the Provisional Government of Eritrea, proceeding from the interests and desire of the two peoples, have decided to establish diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level effective from May 24, 1993.
The two Governments have agreed to develop friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries on the basis of the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence.
The Government of the People's Republic of China supports the Provisional Government of Eritrea in its efforts to safeguard national independence and state sovereignty and to develop its economy.
The Provisional Government of Eritrea recognizes the Government of the People's Republic of China as the sole legal government of China and Taiwan as an inalienable part of Chinese territory. The Provisional Government of Eritrea undertakes not to establish official ties of any form with Taiwan.
The Governments of China and Eritrea have agreed to provide each other with all the necessary assistance for the establishment and performance of the functions of diplomatic mission in their respective capitals in accordance with international practice and on a reciprocal basis.
