On November 6 local time, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President Xi Jinping and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong jointly met in Hanoi with Chinese and Vietnamese youth representatives attending the 16th China-Viet Nam youth friendship meeting.

Xi Jinping and Nguyen Phu Trong walked together into the meeting room, receiving warm greetings of principals of the Central Committees of the Communist Youth Leagues of China and Viet Nam and youth representatives from all circles. The military band played brisk music of welcome, and the Chinese and Vietnamese youths sang in chorus the song "Viet Nam-China". Xi Jinping and Nguyen Phu Trong took group photos with the youth representatives and communicated warmly with them.

Xi Jinping pointed out that as this year marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of China-Viet Nam diplomatic relations, it is very important and necessary for us to cherish the memory of revolutionary martyrs and look forward to the bright future of China-Viet Nam relations. President Ho Chi Minh, the great leader of the Vietnamese people was a close battle companion and comrade to the older generation of Chinese leaders such as Chairman Mao Zedong and Premier Zhou Enlai. It is hoped that the two peoples will always remember the precious history of mutual help, remember the profound connotations of traditional China-Viet Nam friendship, and retain the vitality of China-Viet Nam brotherhood forever.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and Viet Nam, linked by mountains and rivers, share common ideals and interdependent destinies. China-Viet Nam mutually beneficial cooperation is an irresistible trend in line with the common interests of the two countries and their peoples. The two sides should enhance friendship and mutual trust, strengthen solidarity and cooperation, and promote common development. China will continue to stick to the principles of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness, and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and connectivity with neighboring countries including Viet Nam, and will always be a close comrade of socialist countries as well as a credible friend and sincere partner of other developing countries.

Xi Jinping stressed his hope that youth friends will be the heir and successor of bilateral friendship of generations, make contributions to building a China-Viet Nam community of common destiny, and pass on the cause of China-Viet Nam friendship from generation to generation. I firmly believe that the traditional China-Viet Nam friendship will certainly span the long river of history, becoming even deeper and newer in spite of time.

Xi Jinping's speech won bursts of warm applause of youths of the two countries.

Nguyen Phu Trong expressed that since the establishment of Viet Nam-China diplomatic relations 65 years ago, bilateral relations have seen great development achievements, making great contributions to regional peace and prosperity. The traditional friendship of "comrades and brothers" fostered meticulously by the older generations of Vietnamese and Chinese leaders and the good-neighborly and friendly relations are precious treasure shared by the two countries, which should be doubly cherished, inherited and carried forward by the two sides.

Nguyen Phu Trong expressed that Viet Nam and China have the same social system, and both are in the key stage of the cause of renovation, reform and opening-up. To realize the development and prosperity of the two countries is not only the undertaking of the two parties and countries but also the wish of the two nations. It is hoped that youths of the two countries will make close exchanges, enhance mutual understanding, carry forward friendship, and become the important force to create a better future for Viet Nam and China.
