On November 30 local time, President Xi Jinping met with President Barack Obama of the United States (US) in Paris, having an in-depth exchange of views on the development of China-US relations and international and regional issues of common concern. The two sides agreed to continue to push forward the development of China-US relations, strengthen cooperation to tackle climate change, jointly safeguard world peace and stability and promote the stable growth of world economy.

Xi Jinping pointed out that my successful state visit to the US this September has promoted China-US relations for new progress. The two sides have maintained effective coordination and cooperation in fields such as economy, trade, military, and people-to-people and cultural engagement as well as major international and regional issues.

Xi Jinping stressed that under current circumstances, China and the US should firmly hold the correct direction of establishing a new model of major-country relationship, adhere to the principles of non-conflict, non-confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation, promote bilateral practical exchanges and cooperation at bilateral, regional, and global levels, and meanwhile manage and control divergences and sensitive issues in a constructive way, so as to ensure the long-term, sound and stable development of the bilateral relations and to safeguard and promote peace, stability and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region and the world at large. The two sides should maintain exchanges at high and other levels, make good planning of bilateral institutional dialogues and consultations, and ensure that more positive and practical results will be achieved. Against the sluggish world economic recovery, all countries should attach importance to stabilizing growth, oppose trade protectionism, and safeguard the open, transparent and inclusive multilateral trading system. The two sides should strengthen coordination and cooperation on macro-economic policies and in international financial frameworks, and strive for an early completion of negotiations on the bilateral investment agreement to provide an environment of fair competition for enterprises of the two countries to invest in each other's country. The present international situation is complicated and ever-changing, facing a series of pressing issues and challenges. China and the US should intensify strategic communication and coordination to make greater contributions to the proper resolution of major international and regional issues.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and the US should respect each other's core interests and major concerns, and stick to properly handling differences through dialogues and consultations. On the Taiwan issue, Xi Jinping pointed out that maintaining cross-strait peace and stability is in line with the common interests of China and the US. He hopes that the US will take concrete actions to support the peaceful development of cross-strait relations. On the network issue, Xi Jinping stated that the two sides should meet each other half way and show sincerity to jointly promote relevant dialogues for positive results. We are also willing to work with the international community including the US to promote the formulation of international rules on cyberspace and jointly build a peaceful, secure and transparent cyberspace.

Barack Obama said that President Xi had a very successful state visit to the US this September. They had great communication during the recently-concluded G20 Summit and Economic Leaders' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation. Under the current situation, as the common interests of the US and China are increasing constantly, it is very necessary for the two sides to keep close coordination and cooperation in wider areas. The US is willing to work with China to maintain close communication on bilateral cooperation, international security, macro economy, climate change and hot-spot issues through mechanisms such as the Strategic and Economic Dialogue and consultation between the two militaries. This serves the common interests of the US, China and the international community. Further strengthening US-China cooperation on global issues will benefit the whole world. The US is willing to work with China to properly handle the problems between the two countries in a constructive way. The US is pleased to see that the cross-strait relations maintain a stable development. The US holds that the US and China have far more common interests than differences, and the US has full confidence in the in-depth development of bilateral cooperative relations. He is looking forward to visiting Hangzhou next September to attend the G20 Summit.

The two heads of state held that the Climate Change Conference in Paris offers important opportunities for strengthening actions and tackling climate change as a major challenge. The two heads of state reiterated their joint statement on climate change issued in November 2014 and the joint presidential statement on climate change issued in September 2015, including the shared vision on a Paris agreement. The two sides stressed to strengthen cooperation and work with other sides to make the Paris Conference achieve ambitious and successful outcomes.

The two heads of state also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
