On December 4 local time, President Xi Jinping and his wife Mme. Peng Liyuan watched in Johannesburg the art performance at the closing ceremony of the Year of China in South Africa.
At around 8:00 pm, Xi Jinping and his wife, President Jacob Zuma of South Africa and his wife as well as leaders of all other nations present at the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) walked into the performance venue together. The nearly 1000 audience stood up to greet them with warm applause. The evening gala, themed with "China-Africa moments", was performed by nearly 200 actors and actresses from China and African nations.
The evening gala started with drum music "Duihua". The dance "Caiwei" performed by Chinese dancers not only included ancient elegance, but also integrated modern elements. The song of "China-Africa Moments", with rich African flavor, was lively and joyful. The martial performance named "Martial Arts and Friendship", static and dynamic with a combination of firmness and flexibility, vividly interpreted the philosophy of "integration of heaven and human" upheld by the Chinese civilization. The puppet show of "War Steed" jointly performed by Chinese and South African artists was vivid. Chinese and African dancers also performed the wonderful dances of "Dancing in the Rain" and "Tender Feelings under the Moon". The wonderful acrobatic performance named "Charm of Drum", performed by girls from Shandong Acrobatic Troupe, won rounds of cheers and applause from the audience. The piano solos of "Bayette" and "On This Promised Land" show people's aspiration for better life. The gala ended in the songs of "Pray for Africa" and "World Filled with Love" jointly performed by Chinese and African children's choirs.
