Xi Jinping Meets with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud of Somalia

On December 4 local time, President Xi Jinping met in Johannesburg with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud of Somalia.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China always adheres to its friendly policy towards Somalia and understands the aspiration of the Somali people for peace, stability and development. China stands ready to take the implementation of the results achieved in the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) as opportunities to comprehensively enhance friendly cooperation with Somalia in various areas and help the Somali people to realize lasting peace and national reconstruction. In politics, China firmly supports Somalia in its efforts for national reconciliation and peace process and welcomes the Somalis in all fields and at all levels to visit China for exchange. In economy, China firmly supports Somalia in its efforts of economic recovery and national reconstruction, and will increase its aid to Somalia and encourage more Chinese enterprises to engage in mutually beneficial cooperation in Somalia. In security, China will continue helping Somalia strengthen its capability building in national defense and security, and provide assistance to the African Union Mission in Somalia.

Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud noted that Somalia and China enjoy a time-honored friendship. The Somali side is grateful to China for its support to Somalia's national reconstruction and peace process, especially the re-opening of its embassy in Somalia last October. Somalia is willing to boost its cooperation with China, engage in cooperation under the "Belt and Road" initiative, and actively fulfill the consensus reached in the FOCAC Summit this time.
