Li Keqiang Arrives in New York to Attend High-Level Meetings of the 71st Session of the UN General Assembly

On the afternoon of September 18, 2016 local time, at the invitation of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Premier Li Keqiang arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York by special plane to attend high-level meetings of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly. Premier Li Keqiang’s wife Mme. Cheng Hong arrived by the same plane.

Li Keqiang noted that this year marks the 45th anniversary since China resumed its legitimate seat at the UN. As an active supporter of all causes of the UN and a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China firmly safeguards the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and actively participates in relevant works of the UN. China is willing to work with all sides to make contributions to better addressing global challenges and promoting world peace and development.

H.E. Liu Jieyi, Permanent Representative of China to the UN, H.E. Cui Tiankai, Chinese Ambassador to the US ,and H.E. Zhang Qiyue, Chinese Consul General in New York as well as other officials greeted Li Keqiang at the airport.

During his stay in New York, Li Keqiang will attend the general debate of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly, chair the symposium on sustainable development, attend the UN General Assembly’s high-level meeting on solving the problem of mass movement of refugees and immigrants and leaders’ summit on refugee issues, and meet with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and leaders from some participating states. Li Keqiang will also hold a bilateral meeting with President Barack Obama of the US, meet with important figures of the US in various fields including economy, finance, think tank, media as well as others and attend dialogues held by institutions including the Economic Club of New York.
