On the morning of September 22, 2016 local time, Premier Li Keqiang met at the Parliament Building in Ottawa with Speaker of the Senate George J. Furey and Speaker of the House of Commons Geoff Regan of Canada.

Li Keqiang said that the two peoples enjoy time-honored friendship, with strong bilateral economic complementarity and broad prospects for bilateral cooperation. During my visit to Canada this time, I have held productive talks with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Both sides have reached a series of cooperation agreements and consensus. Since China and Canada have different national conditions and cultural background, it is normal to have different viewpoints or even divergence on certain issues. The two countries have no issues rooted in history and conflict regarding fundamental interest, but share common interests that far exceed divergence. The Chinese side is willing to, in the spirit of mutual respect and treating each other as equals, constantly intensify exchanges and expand cooperation, so as to open new pages for China-Canada relations.

Li Keqiang pointed out that the Canadian Senate and House of Commons are not only legislative institutions, but also institutions that represent the public opinion. The National People's Congress of China is willing to, together with the Canadian Senate and House of Commons, deepen exchanges of experience in legislation and rule of law and promote communication between the general public in order to play a positive role in boosting sustained development of China-Canada relations and cooperation, and enhancing mutual understanding, comprehension and friendship between the two peoples.

George J. Furey and Geoff Regan agreed with Li Keqiang's comment on Canada-China relations. They expressed that the enhancement of two-way exchanges between both countries' legislative bodies is conducive to facilitating mutual understanding, forging consensus and reinforcing cooperation. It is believed that Premier Li Keqiang's visit this time will provide important opportunities for further deepening Canada-China relations and cooperation.

Prior to the meeting, George J. Furey and Geoff Regan held a welcome ceremony for Li Keqiang at the Parliament Building.
