Xi Jinping Meets with President Mauricio Macri of Argentina

On September 3, 2016, President Xi Jinping met in Hangzhou with President Mauricio Macri of Argentina, who was in China for the G20 Hangzhou Summit.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Argentina, both as major emerging market economies and comprehensive strategic partners to each other, should strengthen exchanges and cooperation, join efforts in tackling challenges and seek common development together. Satisfied with the current sound development momentum of bilateral relationship, China is willing to push bilateral relations in the new era for greater development together with Argentina.

Xi Jinping stressed that in the next step, both countries should maintain close high-level contacts, keep the development of bilateral relationship on the right track, enhance policy communication and alignment of development strategies, better dock respective advantages and demands, and advance the “troika” of trade, investment and finance side by side. Both sides should promote trade facilitation, optimize trade structure and push for stable and balanced growth of two-way trade. Both countries should earnestly implement existing major cooperation projects in railway, hydropower, nuclear power and other fields, discuss on deepening financial cooperation, reinforce bilateral exchanges and cooperation in culture, science and technology, tourism, football, local affairs and other areas, and ensure the success of next year’s commemorative events to mark the 45th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relationship. China is ready to maintain close communication with Argentina in climate change, global economic governance and other major agendas. China congratulates Argentina on assuming the presidency of the 2018 G20 Summit, and hopes Argentina could continue rendering vigorous support to the development of China-Latin America relations and overall China-Latin America cooperation.

Mauricio Macri noted that Argentina commits to deepening Argentina-China traditional friendship. With strong economic complementarity with China, Argentina is ready to continuously enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields including energy, economy and trade, investment, quality control, infrastructure and tourism. Argentina is willing to closely communicate and coordinate with China in global affairs and supports China in hosting a successful G20 Hangzhou Summit.
