On April 15, 2021, External Security Commissioner of the Foreign Ministry Cheng Guoping held a video conference with Chief of General Staff of the Afghan Armed Forces and Acting Minister of Defense Mohammad Yasin Zia. The two sides exchanged views on China-Afghanistan relations and counter-terrorism and security cooperation. Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan Wang Yu attended the conference via video link.
Cheng Guoping said that China and Afghanistan are neighbors of long-lasting amity and strategic cooperative partners. China has been long supporting Afghanistan's peace, reconstruction and economic development, and is willing to work with Afghanistan to implement the important consensus between the two heads of state, and leverage the platforms such as the China-Afghanistan inter-departmental and inter-regional security cooperation mechanism to deepen counter-terrorism and security cooperation and jointly safeguard international and regional peace and stability.
Mohammad Yasin Zia said that Afghanistan and China are good neighbors, good friends and good partners. He is grateful for the strong support provided by the Chinese government and people in his country's fight against COVID-19 and various fields. Afghanistan stands ready to enhance counter-terrorism and security cooperation with China, resolutely combat terrorist forces of the East Turkestan Islamic Movement and jointly push forward the development of Afghanistan-China comprehensive strategic partnership.
