Excellencies and distinguished guests,
Ladies and gentlemen,
Good evening!
The Chinese New Year of the Horse is drawing closer. It is my great pleasure to join you in celebrating its arrival. On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, I extend my warmest greetings and best wishes to all Chinese nationals in Malaysia, including but not limited to those working in Chinese companies, studying in multi-level academic institutions, and staying in this beautiful country for various reasons. My warmest greetings and best wishes also go to our dear Malaysian friends, who have contributed immensely to strengthening the China-Malaysia friendly ties. I wish you all good health, abundant happiness, and a great success in the Year of the Horse!
2025 was a year when China invigorated the global economy with its own dynamism. China's GDP surpassed 140 trillion yuan in 2025, marking a 5% increase from the previous year and 30% contribution to global economic growth. In 2025, China recorded an average of over 500 million parcels delivered daily, and a total electricity consumption of more than 10 trillion kilowatt-hours.
2025 was a year when China benefited the world through sci-tech progress. In 2025, China led the world as the first country with over 5 million active invention patents, hosting the largest number of large-scale artificial intelligence models, and having built the largest renewable energy system. In 2025, China's production and sales of new energy vehicles exceeded 16 million units; 5G subscribers surpassed 1.2 billion; and 6G research and development completed the first-phase technical trials.
2025 was a year when China shared development opportunities with the international community. In 2025, China remained the major trading partner of more than 150 countries and regions, as well as the main export market for 79 countries and regions. China's goods imports reached 18.5 trillion yuan in 2025, accounting for nearly 10% of the global total. In 2025, foreign entries to China under visa-free policies surged to 30.08 million, marking a nearly 50% increase from the previous year.
2025 was a year when China injected certainty into the uncertain world. Committed to sharing China's wisdom to shape a better-governed world, President Xi Jinping put forward the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) in late 2025, which was immediately welcomed by over 150 countries and international organizations. In 2025, China successfully hosted the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit and the Global Leaders' Meeting on Women, both of which immensely promoted global peace, cooperation, and friendship. Hand in hand, China and its partner countries are steadily advancing the cause of building a community with a shared future for humanity.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Dear friends,
2025 was a milestone year in the development of China-Malaysia relations, highlighted by President Xi Jinping's visit to Malaysia, the second one after 12 years. During this visit, a joint statement was issued reaffirming the two countries' commitment to jointly building the high-level strategic China-Malaysia community with a shared future, which ushered in bilateral relations into a new phase of the best-ever development in history. 2025 also witnessed Premier Li Qiang's two visits to Malaysia and Prime Minister Anwar's fourth visit to China since taking office, all of which substantially strengthened China-Malaysia friendly ties in a comprehensive way.
To our shared pride, China-Malaysia practical cooperation continues to deliver tangible benefits to the people of both countries. According to China's official data, bilateral trade between China and Malaysia registered 191.66 billion US dollars in 2025, a remarkable achievement against the backdrop of global economic downturn. Now, China has remained Malaysia's largest trading partner for 17 consecutive years; the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) has achieved 91% completion; and the "Two Countries, Twin Parks" is being further upgraded.
To our shared joy, "spontaneous travel" has become a reality. Thanks to the implementation of the mutual visa-free policy, people of both countries can come to visit each other whenever they want. In 2025, Chinese tourist visits to Malaysia reached 4.77 million. 716 flights operate weekly between the two countries, a vivid testament to the ever-tightened people-to-people bonds.
Distinguished guests,
Dear friends,
2026 marks the start of both China's 15th Five-Year Plan and the 13th Malaysia Plan. Horse, an auspicious animal in Chinese culture, symbolizes progress and promising prospects. Inspired by its daring spirit and dynamic energy, China and Malaysia will strive for greater progress in 2026, and jointly write a glorious chapter in the new journey of another golden 50 years of China-Malaysia relations.
At this joyful moment of bidding farewell to the old and ushering in the new, I suggest we raise our glasses to toast:
To the happiness of the Chinese New Year of the Horse,
To the continued prosperity of China-Malaysia relations,
And to the health and happiness of the people of both countries,
Cheers!
Thank you.
