Born inDaxian,SichuanProvince, Zhang Canming studied at the Yan'an Anti-Japanese Military andPoliticalCollegeat the beginning of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. Thereafter, he was engaged with work of the local Party and governments inEast China. After transferred to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he served as Director General of the Department of Consular Affairs and Assistant Foreign Minister (1978.12-1979.11). From 1950s to 1970s, he was posted inCeylon(renamedSri LankaRepublicin 1972),Mongolia,Yemen, andFinlandas Ambassador respectively from June 1957 to August 1962, from August 1963 to January 1967, from February 1973 to July 1975, and from September 1975 to November 1978.
