On the evening of May 12, 2026, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone call with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
Mohammad Ishaq Dar briefed Wang Yi on the recent situation of Pakistan's mediation between Iran and the United States for talks, expressed appreciation for China's support for Pakistan's efforts in facilitating the talks, and looked forward to strengthening coordination and cooperation with China to jointly play a positive role in maintaining regional peace and stability.
Wang Yi reaffirmed China's principled position, commended Pakistan for facilitating the US-Iran talks and helping extend the temporary ceasefire, and expressed the hope that Pakistan would maintain confidence, step up its mediation efforts, and contribute to the proper resolution of the issue of opening the Strait of Hormuz and the early restoration of regional peace, which is also the common aspiration of the international community. China will continue to support Pakistan's mediation efforts and make its own contributions to this end.
Wang Yi stated that in a few days, China and Pakistan will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of our diplomatic relations. The two sides should jointly host commemorative events, maintain close high-level exchanges, strengthen strategic communication, consolidate ironclad friendship, advance practical cooperation, better safeguard our respective core interests and the common interests of China and Pakistan, and bring the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership to a new level. In a world of change and instability, the two sides should work together to make the voice of China and Pakistan heard in multilateral forums such as the United Nations and jointly uphold multilateralism.
Mohammad Ishaq Dar stated that Pakistan is ready to take the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity to deepen all-round cooperation with China, maintain close multilateral coordination, and achieve new progress in the Pakistan-China all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.
