China and the Republic of Korea Hold the Third Meeting of Maritime Affairs Dialogue and Cooperation Mechanism

On April 23, 2025, the third meeting of the maritime affairs dialogue and cooperation mechanism between China and the Republic of Korea (ROK) was held in Seoul, the ROK. The meeting was co-chaired by Director-General of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Hong Liang and Director-General of Northeast and Central Asian Affairs Bureau of the ROK Kang Young-shin and attended by personnel from the relevant maritime departments of both countries. Both sides held a plenary session and meetings of the working group on maritime order and practical cooperation, during which they had a comprehensive and in-depth exchange of views on maritime affairs between China and the ROK, in a friendly and pragmatic atmosphere.

Both sides positively assessed the level of China-ROK dialogue and cooperation on maritime affairs and agreed to continue to strengthen communication, properly manage maritime differences, advance maritime delimitation negotiations, and enhance cooperation in marine scientific research, environmental protection, search and rescue, fisheries, law enforcement, maritime and air security, and within multilateral frameworks. The two sides also agreed to enhance mutual trust and strive to make the Yellow Sea into a sea of peace, friendship and cooperation, while jointly promoting the continuous development of the China-ROK strategic cooperative partnership. The two sides also had an exchange of views on fishery aquaculture in the Southern Yellow Sea.
