On Dec. 3, 2013, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the founding meeting of the "International Economic and Financial Advisory Committee" and the Seminar on Economic Diplomatic Work. Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the meeting, and delivered a speech. Vice Foreign Minister Li Baodong hosted the meeting.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs establishing the "International Economic and Financial Advisory Committee" is an important measure to carry out the spirit of the Conference on the Diplomatic Work with Neighbouring Countries, to promote self-reform and to better perform responsibilities. Diplomacy is an extension of the internal affairs. China's diplomacy should better serve the domestic economic construction, and create a good international environment, especially a good surrounding environment, for the country to comprehensively deepen reform. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs should follow the unified deployment by the central government, promptly and accurately grasp the trends and movements of the world economy from a political and diplomatic perspective, put forward countermeasures and proposals on some major issues, and play a good advisory role for the central government and competent departments of the economy. The ministry should more actively participate in international economic and financial cooperation, give play to the role of a responsible big country in multilateral economic summit, and widely adopt proposals by various parties to form the Chinese solution, to send out the Chinese voice, and to win and enlarge the say in the international community. The ministry should give play to its own characteristics and advantages, make an overall plan of the politics, economy, and the domestic and international situations, think of and deal with foreign economic and financial problems from a strategic and overall perspective, properly serve the diplomatic agenda for the leaders, cooperate in the pragmatic work of the competent departments, and maintain and expand the national development interests and economic security.

The first members of the International Economic and Financial Advisory Committee, Li Daoyu, Chen Jian, Sha Zukang, Wang Yusheng, Wang Xuexian, and other senior ambassadors attended the meeting, and put forward their views and proposals on how to implement the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee in diplomatic work, how to serve the domestic economic development and the "going-out" strategy, and how to carry out major-country economic diplomacy with the Chinese characteristics.
