The Chinese Government and the ICRC Held Consultations in Beijing

The fifth round of consultations between officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was held in Beijing from 25 to 26 April 2005 on the future establishment of an ICRC regional delegation for East Asia in Beijing.

In a friendly and business-like manner, the two sides exchanged views in depth and reached agreements on the remaining issues regarding the establishment of the ICRC regional delegation. Both sides agreed to sign in the near future the Agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the International Committee of the Red Cross(ICRC) and the Memorandum of Understanding on the functions and responsibilities of the ICRC in the People's Republic of China.

The two sides expressed satisfaction over these fruitful consultations and agreed to maintain contacts on the follow-ups, aiming at the establishment of the ICRC regional delegation in mid 2005.
