The General Assembly this time places the issue of development at a prominent position and holds General Debate centering on the theme of Focusing on People, complying with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and conforming to the will of all member states, for which China appreciates. The UN reform issue has recently drawn attentions from all parties, and China supports the reform with the hope that this process will progress steadily on the basis of fully listening to the views of member states.
Miroslav Lajcak expressed that the international community welcomes China to play a more and more important role in international affairs, and hopes China to display its global leadership in preventing conflicts, resolving hotspot issues, conducting peacekeeping operations, and implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The UN will further enhance its cooperation with China so as to promote relevant work in security, development and human rights in a balanced manner. Attaching importance to China’s opinions on the UN reform, the UN will advance this process in an incremental manner and with member states taking the dominant role.
