Wang Yi Attends a Photo Exhibition on China's Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

On September 26, 2018 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended a photo exhibition on China’s Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York. President of the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly Maria Fernanda Espinosa and Deputy Secretary-General of the UN Amina J. Mohammed were present.

Wang Yi expressed in his speech that 3 years ago, Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the series of summits marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the UN, during which he and leaders of all countries jointly passed the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and opened up a new era for the cause of sustainable development of the world. Jointly formulated by all the UN member states, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development gathers the maximum consensus of the international community and carries the joint aspirations for a better life of people of all countries.

Wang Yi noted that as the world's largest developing country, the Chinese side attaches great importance to implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and takes the lead in publishing the national plan and report on implementation. Upholding the new development concept, we work to balance progress in the economic, social and environmental aspects. We have prioritized implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in our global macro policy adjustment. We have constantly increased our commitment to South-South cooperation and jointly built the Belt and Road Initiative in an active manner, injecting fresh impetus into the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development around the globe.

Wang Yi noted that through the exhibition on China's Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Chinese side hopes to exchange and share the concepts, actions and achievements of implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with various countries. The Chinese side looks forward to strengthening mutual learning and mutual help with the vast number of the member states and jointly pushing forward the building of an open, inclusive, clean and beautiful world that enjoys lasting peace, universal security and common prosperity.

Maria Fernanda Espinosa and Amina J. Mohammed said in their speeches that over the 40 years of reform and opening up, China has made remarkable achievements in its economic and social development, particularly in poverty reduction and coping with climate change. The UN praises the Chinese side’s resolute support for multilateral agendas, active participation in international cooperation especially South-South cooperation, key role in pushing for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the UN as well as the important guiding role in global governance. The UN praises the Chinese side’s efforts in advancing cooperation at global and regional levels through the Belt and Road Initiative, and is willing to, together with China, jointly advance the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to realize the development and prosperity of the world.
