Director-General of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Foreign Ministry Yang Tao Attends the Launching Ceremony of the Second European Union (EU)-China Dialogue on Migration and Mobility Support Project

On November 26, 2019, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Foreign Ministry Yang Tao attended and addressed the launching ceremony of the second European Union (EU)-China Dialogue on Migration and Mobility Support Project held by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in China. Head of Delegation of the EU to China Nicolas Chapuis and Representative of the IOM in China Giuseppe Crocetti were present. About 50 people were present, including officials from relevant departments of the Chinese side and diplomatic envoys to China of relevant EU member states.

Congratulating on the launching of the second EU-China Dialogue on Migration and Mobility Support Project, Yang Tao expected the project to further help China and the EU member states deepen understanding of each other's migration managing system, and elevate China-EU and China-IOM cooperation. Yang Tao expressed, as the globalization continues to develop, the situation of global migration is undergoing profound and complex changes. How to realize safe, regular and orderly migration is the common topic facing the EU member states and China. All countries should, in accordance with the spirit of multilateralism, overcome immigration challenges and protect the legitimate rights and interests of immigrants through dialogue, consultation and cooperation to advance the joint building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

The EU-China Dialogue on Migration and Mobility Support Project was initiated in 2016. The first project ended smoothly in 2018, and the second one, which will last for three years, started in 2019. The IOM will be responsible for coordination and carrying out relevant work, with the aim of further enhancing cooperation and exchanges between China and the EU, facilitating regular personnel flow between our two sides, and preventing and reducing illegal migration through seminar, training research and other forms.
