Director-General of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences Yang Tao Attends the Roundtable Meeting of the 2020 Edition of the Global Innovation Index

On September 3, 2020, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences Yang Tao attended the roundtable meeting of the 2020 Edition of the Global Innovation Index held by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Office in China, and delivered a keynote speech.

Yang Tao congratulated the WIPO on the release of the 2020 Edition of the Global Innovation Index. He said, China once again ranks the top 15 of the global innovation index, and continues to be a leading force of global innovation, fully demonstrating that innovation is the primary driving force of China’s development. Against the backdrop of the global spread of the COVID-19, innovation must not stop, and should become the main driving force of the recovery of global economy.

Yang Tao expressed, the destinies of all countries are closely linked in this interconnected world. Therefore win-win cooperation is the general trend and inevitable result of scientific and technological innovation. All countries should jointly oppose protectionism and bullying practice in science and technology, and promote fair competition, to create conditions for the full recovery of world economy and innovation in science and technology. China will continue to actively participate in the international cooperation on intellectual property, promote and strengthen the global governance system of intellectual property rights based on the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits.
