On July 12, 2024, Assistant Foreign Minister Miao Deyu met with the trainees and instructors attending the Seminar on Affairs of the United Nations Security Council held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in China. Diplomats from five newly elected non-permanent members of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, including Denmark, Greece, Pakistan, Panama and Somalia, and officials of the United Nations Secretariat, attended the meeting.
Miao Deyu congratulated the five countries on their election as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for the 2025-2026 term, saying that in today's world, changes unseen in a century are unfolding at an accelerated pace, with factors of instability and uncertainty evidently increasing. As the core of the international collective security mechanism, the Security Council should earnestly fulfill its responsibilities, strengthen solidarity and cooperation, promote the political settlement of hotspot issues, and make positive contributions to maintaining international peace and security. China firmly practices multilateralism and plays its role as a responsible major country. China is ready to work with members of the Security Council and other parties to safeguard world peace and tranquility, promote global common development and build a community with a shared future for mankind.
Representatives of the trainees and instructors of the seminar thanked China for hosting the Seminar on Affairs of the UN Security Council and its thoughtful arrangements, which provided a useful platform for newly elected members to familiarize themselves with the work of the Security Council as soon as possible and strengthen dialogue and cooperation. Noting that as a permanent member of the Security Council, China plays an important role in international affairs, they said that the newly elected members look forward to strengthening communication and cooperation with China at the Security Council to jointly safeguard world peace and security.
