On August 1, 2024, Assistant Foreign Minister Miao Deyu met with Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) of the United Nations Natalia Gherman. The two sides had an exchange of views on such issues as the global fight against terrorism and cooperation on counterterrorism between China and the United Nations.
Miao Deyu said that China always adheres to true multilateralism and firmly supports the United Nations in playing a central role in international affairs. China and CTED have maintained sound cooperation over the long run, and achieved positive results. China is ready to further deepen relations, practice the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, promote the implementation of the Global Security Initiative advocated by President Xi Jinping, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
Natalia Gherman highly appreciated China's positive role in international peace and security affairs and its important contributions to the cause of the United Nations, and said that the Global Security Initiative is of great significance to enhancing international security cooperation. She said that CTED looks forward to expanding cooperation with China to strengthen the counter-terrorism capacity-building of all countries and better address the challenges of terrorism.
