Assistant Foreign Minister Miao Deyu Meets with UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix

On November 26, 2024, Assistant Foreign Minister Miao Deyu met with visiting UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on the current international and regional security situation, the reform of UN peacekeeping operations and China-UN peacekeeping cooperation.

Miao Deyu said that the Global Security Initiative put forward by President Xi Jinping has offered Chinese wisdom on tackling the global peace deficit and provided Chinese solutions to international security challenges. As the world enters a new period defined by turbulence and transformation, UN peacekeeping operations face both opportunities and challenges. China firmly supports UN peacekeeping operations and is ready to work with the United Nations to implement the Global Security Initiative, make positive contributions to maintaining international peace and security, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Jean-Pierre Lacroix thanked China for its firm support and outstanding contributions to UN peacekeeping operations. He looks forward to deepening cooperation with China to improve UN peacekeeping operations and make joint efforts to make UN peacekeeping operations more responsive to the needs of the times and more cost-effective.
