On February 21, 2025, the 13th China-Switzerland Human Rights Dialogue was held in Beijing, co-chaired by Sun Lei, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, and Christine Löw, Deputy Head of Division for Peace and Human Rights of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland. Also present were representatives form the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Legislative Affairs Commission of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, the Supreme People’s Court, the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Justice and the Office of the State Council Working Committee on Disability of China, as well as Switzerland’s Federal Department of Justice and Police, Federal Department of Home Affairs, Federal Office of Justice.
The Chinese side elaborated on its human rights development path, approach and achievements in a systematic manner, and had in-depth discussion with the Swiss side on economic, social and cultural rights, civil and political rights, multilateral human rights cooperation, rights of specific groups, etc. The Chinese side stressed that Xinjiang, Xizang and Hong Kong related issues are purely China’s internal affairs, which brook no interference by the Swiss side. The Chinese side raised concerns about racism, social inequality, prohibition of torture, police violence, refugees and immigrants, sexual discrimination and other problems in Switzerland, and asked the Swiss side to address them.
The two sides believed that the dialogue was candid and in-depth, and achieved the expected effect of enhancing mutual understanding, building trust and mitigating differences. The two sides were ready to explore exchanges and cooperation in multilateral human rights affairs, justice, rights of people with disabilities and other fields.
