On March 24, 2025, the international symposium themed "Strengthen the Role of the United Nations and Promote Multilateralism", hosted by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, was held in Beijing. Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi delivered written remarks.
Wang Yi said that the U.N. Summit of the Future was successfully convened last year. This reflects the common aspiration of the international community for supporting and promoting multilateralism, strengthening the role of the United Nations and improving global governance. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War and the founding of the United Nations. The international community hopes to see all countries work in solidarity and coordination to keep to the right way forward, keep abreast of the trend of the times, defend fairness and justice, safeguard world peace and stability, and advance global development and prosperity.
Wang Yi said, Chinese President Xi Jinping put forward the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative. These are China's proposals to jointly tackle global challenges and build a better world, and they have won the recognition and support of more and more countries. As a founding member of the United Nations and a permanent member of the Security Council, China will continue to work with all parties to practice true multilateralism, uphold the central role of the United Nations, and promote global governance that is based on extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, with a view to bringing stability to a changing and turbulent world, injecting positive energy in building a more just and equitable global governance system, and working toward the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind.
More than 100 people participated in the symposium, including representatives from nearly 50 countries, international and regional organizations in China, U.N. officials, representatives from relevant ministries, and experts and scholars.
