On June 19, 2025, Assistant Foreign Minister Miao Deyu met with the United Nations (U.N.) Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications Melissa Fleming.

Miao Deyu said that amid the current evolving and volatile international situation, a certain country is engaging in unilateralism and bullying, severely impacting the U.N.-centered international system. China practices true multilateralism and supports the United Nations in playing a central role in international affairs, providing valuable stability and certainty for the world. China is willing to deepen cooperation with the United Nations to further enhance public understanding and perception of the United Nations and China, and jointly create a sound atmosphere for the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.

Melissa Fleming appreciated China's firm support for multilateralism and the United Nations, and spoke positively of the good cooperative relationship with China. In an era full of crises, the United Nations and multilateral cooperation are indispensable. She hopes that the majority of member states will take the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations as an opportunity to reinvigorate multilateralism, enabling the United Nations to play a better role in international affairs.
